I remember it as if it was yesterday. It was my first day at Sacred Heart College and all that was going through my mind that day was fear, fear that I wouldn’t make any friends and fear that I would be seen as the bumbling new kid that no one wanted to talk to or socialise with. I soon realised my predictions were totally false, as soon as I entered those gates I felt a sudden sense of warmth and safety but there was still finding friends to worry about. My insecurities about not making friends, quickly went away. As our register teacher (Mrs Raath) talked with parents I was soon flooded with fellow future friends asking me about what I did during the holidays and where I came from, this made me feel extremely happy as not only were they asking me questions, they were making feel included and welcome into their school. That was 4 years ago and I can safely say I have made solid friendships with almost every person in my grade and some in higher grades. This was hard for me to write as there is no one moment at SHC that was better than the other, everyday I drive into those gates knowing that I am entering a place of safety, friendship and kindness that no other school can dream to rival. I am proud to be part of the Marist family and most of all I am proud to be part of the Sacred Heart College family.
